wedding cake prices Guide

Find out more about my wedding cake prices and some options here…

Your wedding day is one of the most special and memorable days of your life.

Creating a cake that compliments you as a couple, and your wedding day vision is of the utmost importance to me. Therefore we need to look at the finish that is best for your cake, the level of intricacies in your ideal design, and the overall portions needed before we can start to look at the final cost of your cake.

In order to get a starting figure we need to first look at what you need to complete your wedding cake vision.

Please note, as each couple and your needs are unique, so will your cake be. As such I am unable to provide a set price list, so it’s not as simple as picking off a menu, or asking how much a cake you found from a Google search will be.

However, I do understand it is useful to get a guide to wedding cake prices before we go any further, so I have outlined some basic options, and starting prices for my most popular sizes below.

Finish options

Buttercream finished cakes are highly recommended for winter weddings due to the lower melting points of the finish. Once seen as a cheaper, less versatile finish, buttercream cakes can offer a rustic or clean cut feel, with pattern details and just as many colour options.

Please note, I do not offer naked or semi naked finishes due to the prolonged exposure of the sponge, which can lead to dry edges which, whilst these can be removed, leads to unnecessary food waste.

Ganache, a delicious mix of cream and Belgian chocolate, is just as flexible as buttercream, and due to the higher melting point, makes it a good all rounder for all seasons.

The Swiss sugarpaste I use, sometimes referred to fondant by our American counterparts, is a far cry from the thick, pappy covering used on supermarket cakes. I use the highest quality sugarpaste which sets firm, and can be rolled to just a couple of millimetres thick, allowing a crisp, sharp finish. The result is a stunning, statement cake, finished with the opportunity for intricate design details or textures.

Both buttercream and sugarpaste finishes can be decorated with a range of design elements, including fresh, dried, pressed and sugar florals, silk ribbons, a variety of textures, and edible metallic leaf to name but a few.

What size cake do you need?

The size of your cake will depend on whether you are serving it as the main dessert of your wedding breakfast, or as taster portions on the day. The second option is the most commonly seen, and is usually served later in the day, once your evening guests have arrived, so you need to take these into account when working out final numbers.

For smaller, more intimate weddings, or if you’d like a more statement cake without the cake wastage if you don’t need the portions a larger cake would provide, polystyrene dummy cakes can be covered and decorated to look like cake to increase the perceived size of your cake, without any of your guests realising it isn’t real.

How much will my wedding cake cost?

The wedding cake price guide below reflects the starting cost of a moderately decorated wedding cake from Caritas Cake Design. The total cost will vary depending on the amount of detail and if real or dummy tiers are used. If further, more complex details are required such as sugar ruffles, edible metallic leaf, hand painting or sugar flower cascades, the final cost will be adjusted accordingly. These prices do not include set up and delivery on the day.

Kind Words

“We were absolutely thrilled with Carrie’s beautiful and delicious
chocolate kirsch wedding cake and cupcakes in 3 flavours.

It was a spectacular centre piece in the wedding celebrations and was enjoyed by all the guests.

It was an absolute joy working with Carrie from beginning of the order to the end delivery and set up on the day. She was patient helpful and accommodating to my numerous changes before settling on the final order.

I couldn’t recommend Caritas Cake Design highly enough.”
