Here at Caritas Cake Design, I offer classes to give you the opportunity to develop your cake skills. This private baking course is for complete beginners. If you’d love to bake, but have no idea where to start, or you can’t seem to get the results you’re looking for, let me help you perfect your sponges and cupcakes.
What is involved?
In this private baking course we will cover:
- The creaming method of cake baking
- Information about ingredients
- Basic recipe proportions, and adapting for different size cakes and tins
- Preparing your baking tins
- The method for baking a simple sponge
- Testing when it is done
- Making and flavouring buttercream
- Splitting and filling the cake
- Decorating the cake in a semi naked style and finishing the cake with some fresh fruit
- Storing the cake
- Troubleshooting
There will be lots of tips and advice throughout the class. Whilst notes are provided to take home, you may wish to bring a pen for any additional notes. Under my guidance we will bake a 6” round cake to give 4 layers) and decorate it in a semi naked style. We will also bake 12 cupcakes in a different flavour. You will make buttercream and decorate the cupcakes in 2 simple, but effective ways.
What’s included in the price?
- Effective, transferable decorating tips to decorate your own cupcakes
- My recipes for a classic vanilla bean sponge cake, and American buttercream
- Your own delicious, 6” diameter cake and a box of 12 cupcakes to enjoy with your friends or family
- A selection of refreshments and homemade chocolate brownies will be available whilst we wait for our cakes to chill. Extra drinks will be available throughout the session
Classes will be held in my purpose built kitchen studio in Billingshurst, West Sussex RH14, and will run from 10am until approximately 3pm, with a 45 minute lunch break (please bring a packed lunch). All other refreshments will be provided.
Please note that whilst it is possible to complete some of this private baking course sitting, it is far easier to do so standing, so for most of the session we will be standing. If you are not able to stand for this length of time, please do let me know in advance as sitting positions are limited.
There is a limited amount of free parking available at the studio. If you can’t find a space to park then there is paid parking in the nearby library car park, about 3 minutes walk away.
No tickets will be posted to you. Simply turn up on the day with your confirmation email (no need to print if this is on your phone to show me).
*The cake in the images are an example of what your cake could look like, and demonstrates the skills learnt in this class. Everyone is free to adjust their designs and colours to suit their own tastes.
Allergens:
In this cake class we will be using wheat based flour, eggs, dairy and soya based products. No nuts will be used in the recipes for the class, however cakes are made in the kitchen which use nut and nut products. Fresh fruits will also be used. If you have any allergens regarding specific fruits, please let me know in advance.
Booking details:
You will receive an email after purchase to arrange your private baking course for a date in 2025. I have limited Saturdays, plenty of Sundays, and most Tuesdays and Wednesdays available. Please note your class will need to be booked for a mutually convenient time when we have space in the diary. Some things are even more fun with friends! You have the option to add one friend to your day at a discounted price so you can both learn together. Please choose the correct option at checkout. Prices: £195 1 to 1 £345 with a friend
Terms and Conditions
PAYMENT:
1.1 You’ll receive an email after your purchase confirming your booking. Once booked, classes are non refundable and non transferable.
1.2 Your place on a course cannot be guaranteed until full payment has been made.
1.3 Full payment must be made and received at the time of booking.
CANCELLATION BY YOU
2.1 You may cancel your place on the course up to 8 weeks before the course start date. Under these circumstances you will be entitled to a full refund or your course fees.
2.2 If you cancel 3-8 weeks before the course start date you will be entitled to a 50% refund.
2.3 Cancelling with 3 weeks or less of the course start date will mean you are not entitled to a refund, however, at our discretion and availability, you may be offered a place on another course of the same or lesser value on a future date. If the replacement course has a higher value, then you will need to pay the difference.
2.4 If you wish to cancel your place on a booked course, please do so in writing to carrie@caritascakedesign.co.uk. Please note refunds may take up to 2 weeks to process.
2.5 If your friend wishes to cancel, then by all means bring someone else. If you are unable to find someone who wishes to join you, then the 1 to 1 price will apply to your place, and the cancellation policy as set out in section 2 applies to the additional place on the course.
CANCELLATION BY US
3.1 If in the unlikely event we need to cancel a course, we will endeavour to give you at least one week notice. You will have the option of rebooking onto the same course at a later date, another course of the same value, using your booking fee as a credit towards a higher value course, or a full refund. Please note that full refunds may take up to three weeks to process.
3.2 We will not be liable for any losses (including, but not limited to travel, accommodation or loss of earnings) incurred as a result of the course cancellation or modification as set out above, beyond the cost of the course fee.
NON ATTENDANCE
4.1 If you are unable to attend a group course due to personal or professional reasons, you will not be entitled to a refund, one to one tuition to make up for the missed work, or automatic transfer to another date. However, we will consider such action as we consider to be fair and reasonable.
4.1.1 If you are booked onto a 1 to 1 course, then the standard cancellation policy as set out in section 2 applies.
4.2 Please note that if alternative options are offered, there may be an additional charge.
4.3 Whilst we wish to be fair and take your circumstances into account when looking at transferring your course fees, if you do not give us any prior notice of non attendance, or simply just don’t turn up on the day, then you will not be entitled to any form or refund or alternative arrangements
